【摘要】:Thistestmethodquantifiestheabilityofasedimentretentiondevice(SRD)toretainerodedsedimentscausedbysheetflowingwaterunderfull-scaleconditions.ThistestmethodmayalsoassistinidentifyingphysicalattributesofSRDsthatcontributetotheirerosioncontrolperformance.TheeffectivenessofSRDsisinstallationdependent.Thus,replicatingfieldinstallationtechniquesisanimportantaspectofthistestmethod.Thistestmethodisfull-scaleandtherefore,appropriateasanindicationofproductperformance,forgeneralcomparisonofproductcapabilities,andforassessmentofproductinstallationtechniques.Note18212;TestMethodD5141isanalternatetestmethodforevaluatingsedimentretentiondeviceeffectiveness,ifitisnotnecessarytosimulatefieldinstallationconditions.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors:PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodestablishestheguidelines,requirementsandproceduresforevaluatingtheabilityofSedimentRetentionDevices(SRDs)toretainsedimentwhenexposedtosediment-ladenwater"sheet"flows.1.2ThistestmethodisapplicabletotheuseofanSRDasaverticalpermeableinterceptordesignedtoremovesuspendedsoilfromoverland,nonconcentratedwaterflow.ThefunctionofanSRDistotrapandallowsettlementofsoilparticlesfromsedimentladenwater.Thepurposeistoreducethetransportoferodedsoilfromadisturbedsitebywaterrunoff.1.3Thetestmethodpresentedhereinisintendedtoindicaterepresentativeperformanceandisnotnecessarilyadequateforallpurposesinviewofthewidevarietyofpossiblesedimentsandperformanceobjectives.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Theinch-poundvaluesgiveninparenthesesareprovidedforinformationpurposesonly.1.5AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.5.1Theproceduresusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected/recordedandcalculatedinthisstandardareregardedastheindustrystandard.Inaddition,theyarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatshouldgenerallyberetained.Theproceduresuseddonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationfortheusersobjectives;anditiscommonpracticetoincreaseorreducesignificantdigitsofreporteddatatocommensuratewiththeseconsiderations.Itisbeyondthescopeofthisstandardtoconsidersignificantdigitsusedinanalysismethodsforengineeringdesign.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
