【摘要】:TSCsareusedinanumberofcriticalindustrialcomponents.TSCscanbeexpectedtocontainmeasurablelevelsofporosityandlineardetachment.Accurateandconsistentevaluationofspecimensisessentialtoensuretheintegrityofthecoatingandproperadherencetothesubstrate.4.1.1Example1:Byuseofinappropriatemetallographicmethods,theapparentamountofporosityandlineardetachmentdisplayedbyagivenspecimencanbeincreased,byexcessiveedgerounding,ordecreasedbysmearingofmaterialintovoids.Thereforeinaccuratelevelsofporosityandlineardetachmentwillbereportedevenwhentheaccuracyofthemeasurementtechniqueisacceptable.4.1.2Example2:Inconsistentmetallographicpreparationmethodscancausetheapparentamountofvoidstovaryexcessivelyindicatingapoorlycontrolledthermalsprayprocess,whiletheuseofconsistentpracticewillregularlydisplaythetruemicrostructureandverifytheconsistencyofthethermalsprayprocess.DuringthedevelopmentofTSCprocedures,metallographicinformationisnecessarytovalidatetheefficacyofaspecificapplication.Crosssectionsareusuallytakenperpendiculartothelongaxisofthespecimenandpreparedtorevealinformationconcerningthefollowing:4.3.1Variationsinstructurefromsurfacetosubstrate,4.3.2Thedistributionofunmeltedparticlesthroughoutthecoating,4.3.3Thedistributionoflineardetachmentthroughoutthecoating,4.3.4Thedistributionofporositythroughoutthecoating,4.3.5Thepresenceofcontaminationwithinthecoating,4.3.6Thethicknessofthecoating(topcoatandbondcoat,whereapplicable),4.3.7Thepresenceofinterfacialcontamination,4.3.8Theintegrityoftheinterfacebetweenthecoatingandsubstrate,and,4.3.9Theintegrityofthecoatingmicrostructurewithrespecttochemistry.1.1Thisguidecoversrecommendationsforsectioning,cleaning,mounting,grinding,andpolishingtorevealthemicrostructuralfeaturesofthermalsprayedcoatings(TSCs)andthesubstratestowhichtheyareappliedwhenexaminedmicroscopically.Becauseofthediversityofavailableequipment,thewidevarietyofcoatingandsubstratecombinations,andthesensitivityofthesespecimenstopreparationtechnique,theexistenceofaseriesofrecommendedmethodsformetallographicpreparationofthermalsprayedcoatingspecimensishelpful.Adherencetothisguidewillprovidepractitionerswithconsistentandreproducibleresults.AdditionalinformationconcerningstandardpracticesformetallographicpreparationcanbefoundinPracticeE3.Thisstandardsdoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
